Terms of use

Please read these terms before using the tools. By using Simply Calculated, you agree to them.

1. About us

Simply Calculated is run by Kuda Mativenga, an individual based in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). Contact: [email protected].

Simply Calculated is independent. It is not part of, approved by or endorsed by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), the European Commission or any other government body.

2. Free tools for general guidance

Our calculators and checkers are free to use. They give general guidance only, based on the information you enter and the rules as we understand them at the time.

They are not tax, legal or financial advice. They cannot take account of everything about your situation. Before you make a decision that matters, check the official guidance on GOV.UK or speak to a qualified adviser.

We work hard to keep the tools accurate and up to date. However, we cannot promise that every result is error-free, complete or suitable for your purpose.

If you use the invoice generator, you are responsible for checking that each invoice is correct and complete before you send it.

3. VAT number checks

The VAT number checker (coming soon) shows information returned by HMRC, for UK numbers, or by the European Commission’s VIES service, for EU and Northern Ireland (XI) numbers.

  • Results reflect HMRC’s or VIES’s records at the time of the check. Registrations can change, and we cannot correct or update those records.
  • A valid result confirms that the number is registered. It does not, on its own, prove who you are dealing with, or that a business is trading or trustworthy.
  • If HMRC or VIES is unavailable, the checker may be unable to give an answer. Please try again later.

4. Fair use

The tools are for people checking things for themselves or their business. You must not:

  • use automated tools, scripts or bots to access the tools;
  • check numbers in bulk, or try to copy, collect or resell results;
  • try to overload, disrupt or get around any limits or security on the site.

We may limit or block access where we see this kind of use. This also helps us keep within the usage limits set by HMRC and VIES.

5. Changes to the tools

We may change, pause or withdraw any tool, or these terms, at any time. The date at the top shows the latest version of these terms.

6. Our responsibility to you

The tools are provided free and “as is”. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the tools or their results.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.

7. Links to other websites

We link to other websites, such as GOV.UK and the VIES website. We are not responsible for their content.

8. Your privacy

Our privacy policy explains how we handle information, including what the VAT number checker sends to HMRC and VIES.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
