What a UK invoice must include
Every invoice needs a unique number, your name and address, your customer’s name and address, a description of what you’re charging for, the supply date, the invoice date, the amounts and the total owed. Limited companies add their full registered name. Read the full list.
If you’re VAT registered
A VAT invoice also shows your VAT number, the unit price and VAT rate for each item, the total before VAT and the total VAT in pounds. You normally have 30 days from the supply date to issue it. See full, simplified and reverse charge VAT invoices.
Invoicing from outside the UK
Choose where your business is and the currency. We fill in that country’s VAT rates and the wording its tax office expects, such as “Tax invoice” in South Africa and the SIREN and late payment lines in France. In Zimbabwe, a VAT invoice has to come from a ZIMRA fiscal device, so the tool makes invoices without VAT there. Other countries can set their own tax name and rate.
