Who checks the sums
Kuda Mativenga is a chartered management accountant (ACMA, CGMA) with more than 15 years in finance leadership in the UK and southern Africa. He checks the rates, rules and workings behind every tool, and re-checks them after each Budget and each April.
Why the site exists
People arrive with one question, such as whether a supplier’s VAT number is real or what an invoice has to show, and want an answer they can trust. Each tool here gives that answer, shows how it got there, and names the official pages it follows, so you can check it yourself.
What we promise
- Workings on every result, line by line, in HMRC’s own terms.
- Sources you can follow, with the date we last checked them. How we check explains the process.
- No sign-up, and we don’t keep the figures or numbers you enter. The privacy policy has the detail.
Independence
Simply Calculated is independent. It is not part of, approved by or endorsed by HMRC, the European Commission or any other government body. Where a tool uses an official service, such as HMRC’s Check a UK VAT number service, the page says so.
How the site is paid for
The tools are free. In future we may show a small number of adverts, kept apart from the tools and never inside them. Before any adverts appear we will update the privacy policy and ask for your consent to advertising cookies.
